TNDC
210 GOLDEN GATE
San Francisco, California • 1,300 Sq. Ft.
When TNDC, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, had the opportunity to occupy this corner location, they envisioned the space for two community-engaging programs: Community Organizing and Food Distribution.
The location presented the perfect opportunity for TNDC to activate the streets and advocate for their tenants. Inside, a center wall was built to create separate spaces for the two programs’ needs. The front section was reserved for community gatherings and food distribution, while the back remains a functionable workspace for Community Organizing.
Barn doors and rustic finishes draw upon the concept of a farmer’s market, and the bold pattern of the carpet reflects the surrounding urban life. To soften the liveliness of the space, acoustical ceiling panels were integrated with the lighting in a simple pattern. Local muralists were commissioned by TNDC to further acknowledge the diversity and beauty of the Tenderloin neighborhood.
